Bank of France raises second-quarter growth forecast

PARIS: France's central bank raised its forecast for economic growth in the second quarter on July 8, predicting that the second-largest economy in the euro zone shook off a shallow recession with an increase of 0.2 per cent in gross domestic product.

The Bank of France, which had previously predicted growth of 0.1 per cent versus the first quarter, said that it was raising its GDP estimate based on the results of a June survey that signalled a modest improvement in the business climate.

Its index of sentiment in the industrial sector rose to 96 in June from 94 in May. It also edged up in the services sector, to 90 in June from 89 in May.
